  1. Peter Morse's new book is now available: A Few Great Flies and How to Fish Them.

This is a book that boils down the essence of fishing, based on the FDR principle. Fly Depth and Retrieve.

170 pages of great stories, tips and techniques, flies and photos. There is even a picture of me on pg 39!! That aside, understanding the principles outlined in this book will help you catch more fish, whether you fish fly, bait or lure.

    Only available from http://www.wildfish.com.au

  2. hey guys, i was wondering where some peoples favourite fishing destinations or dream spots that they would love to fish are. i have so many spots on the list. one of my favorite destinations at the moment would have to be tin can bay its not to far away and it doesnt get that much fishing pressure. some of my dream spots that i would like to fish are weipa(maybe next year if we do anther shop trip), belize is pretty high up on the list aswell to try and get some of those monster tarpon, another spot would have to be the inside northern tip of fraser island to get a shot at those goldies on the flats and a small black wouldnt be bad either.

    cheers matt

  3. Hi Matt

I'm at the Brisbane International now - waiting to board a flight to the South Island NZ. Trout!

  4. My dream spots at the moment would be anywhere i can go poppering for 35kg GTs, Tip of fraser would be great, chasing all those awesome fish that are up that way. And i would also like to go to NT chasing barra...

as for favourite spots to fish, after being shown around tin can thanks to matty and justin, it would be one of my favourite spots because the variety that it offers. I love fishing for wild river bass and there are several spots with in 2 hours drive that are fantastic. Went for a fish with some mates on the weekend (the coopers) and landed about 50 bass (mostly on surface) between the 3 of us in 2 short sessions. Doesn't get much better than that.

  5. Ok, This is probably something that most will find a very unfamiliar subject. Last week i went to tin can with the boys for a fish, it was always going to be hard with all the fresh in the water and seriously strong SE winds. But we still caught fish. We also got a hook up on a big barra on 25lb leader. Is there anything you can do to lesson the amount of punishment the barra gives the leader, or is a worn, torn smashed off leader about all thats going to happen.

  6. Most guys I know that fish at Monduran have a minimum of 60lb for their leader. The only way to land a fish with less is to hook them perfectly in the lip or on the outside of the jaw. (This happens a lot more than you might think - usually with trebles on big lures)

I've seen some guys use Mustad Steel for Teeth - a nylon coated wire trace. They did VERY well too.

Going hard on the fish puts more strain on the line, going soft gives them longer to chew on it. I think the answer is in beefing up your leader rather than style of angling. Others might have a different opinion.

Well done on catching fish in such aweful conditions.
